Building on efforts to provide experiential learning opportunities for partners, Resourceful Communities launched its Peer Learning Visits this fall. During these visits, participants visit peer hosts to learn on-site about successful efforts in a variety of program areas, including sustainable agriculture, renewable energy and community forestry. Workshops include a tour of partner facilities and guided discussion on resources, start-up and take-home strategies.
More than 40 grassroots and resource partners attended the Eco- and Heritage Tourism Peer Learning Visit in the Roanoke River Region. Participants toured Roanoke River Partners' camping platforms and discussed heritage tourism at Concerned Citizens of Tillery's History House. Guests sampled regional cuisine at a dinner hosted by Mideast RC&D and visited the world's largest collection of waterfowl at Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park.
Attendees expressed enthusiasm about taking "lessons learned" back to their communities. And as Lexie Danner with Elkland Art Center said, "Resourceful Communities does what we all dream of being able to do for each other."
CNEF funds supported Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project's Peer Learning Visit about their farm-to-school program. Plans are underway for upcoming visits, including sustainable agriculture and asset based development.
