Grain Bin Donation Supports Sustainable Agriculture

Grain Bin Transfer

A growing number of low-resource farmers will benefit from a unique donation to The Conservation Fund:  17 grain bins previously used in turkey production.

When NC Department of Agriculture (NCDA) partners alerted Conservation Fund representatives to an unusual donation opportunity, staff of both organizations worked creatively to advance the efforts of low-resource farmers.

Sharon Valentine of Privateer Farms donated seventeen grain bins to The Conservation Fund. Working with NCDA partners, the fund transferred the bins to the NC Coalition of Farm and Rural Families, a community group dedicated to sustaining working farms throughout North Carolina.

Participating farmers provided in-kind donations of labor, transportation and installation of the bins. The bins are available on a cost-share basis to farmers in Eastern North Carolina. Thank you, Sharon Valentine! We appreciate this generous donation that will strengthen farm operations and support sustainable agriculture efforts.

Project Spotlight

Resourceful Communities has helped partners establish NC's first community forest on a 532-acre parcel in Hoke County. Community forestry engages local partners in planning, management and stewardship. Adjacent to forestlands with the second largest US population of the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker, this community forest will restore habitat and provide economic, recreational and educational opportunities and more.
